CHILD CARE |
|
In the past it was quite difficult to find good child care and on most occasions, parents and carers had to rely upon relatives, friends and neighbours for child care arrangements. Statistics show that some childminders and nannies could not be relied upon as well as other child care facilities provided outside of the home. Having worked in this area for a local authority, I can confirm that finding childcare is much simpler and the vetting, registration and approval process that childminders, home child carers (to use this facility your home must be registered for child care), nannies, playgroups including toddler groups, crèches and day nurseries go through is very strict, open and transparent. Local authorities now have One-Stop-Shops that are able to provide information on child care services. If your local authority does not have a One-Stop-Shop you will be able to contact your education and learning service directly as they do support all areas covered in this section. The education and learning service is also able to provide information and documentation in relation to the OFSTED National standards for all child care services. We have recently used our education and learning service and we were very impressed with the high level of customer care and with the documentation at hand to give to us on the Ofsted National standards. The information and documentation has proved to be invaluable. Sometimes we are not getting the childcare service that we expect. Without knowledge of the Ofsted National standards, the Childcare Act, we would not be equipped to resolve problems that can arise.
