| ATTN: Minister of Education |
| We are parents of 4 children. We have 2 toddlers at nursery, a 10 year old at junior school and our eldest is an adult. Because of our 3 younger children we are very interested in the different stages of the National Curriculum, the ‘Birth to three matters framework and standards’ (BTMFS) and how they are taught at our children’s nursery and school. |
| We recently discovered the ‘BTMFS’ and the Foundation stages framework (FSF) and strategy by chance. Had we been made aware of the ‘BTMFS’ and the FSF, when our children began nursery we would have structured our questions differently and had additional questions to ask. |
| The same applies to our 10 year old. Not much mention is made of the fact that each key stage and teacher’s assessment is available on the internet and can be downloaded and used to prepare children for tests. |
| We have found this information to be invaluable. Now many people are accessing information on the ‘BTMFS’, National Curriculum, Higher education, Adult learning and other areas of education through the website that I have set up, which is effectively and positively participating in the promotion of education. Visit us to see how we have actively assisted in the promotion of education at www.ever-learning.co.uk |
| From my research I discovered that not one person I talked to was aware of the ‘BTMFS’ and FSF and strategy, nor were they aware that each key stage and teacher’s assessment is available on the internet and can be downloaded and used to prepare children for tests. |
| I have promised my users that I would contact the education minister with the following suggestion. |
| I suggest that publication of the ‘BTMFS’ and National Curriculum be sent to parents, carers and children, using the information held on the child benefit register and or the information held on the child tax register. |
| Seeing that most, if not all children are registered for child benefit and or child tax credit, I believe this could be an effective way of reaching virtually all parents, carers and children. I also know that more parents and carers will commit themselves to working closely and in partnership with nurseries, schools and other approved teaching organisations, ensuring that children understand the National Curriculum and that children meet targets set. For this to happen we need the information. |
| I look forward to your reply at the earliest opportunity. |
| Yours sincerely |
